Having followed the beekeeping tradition of his family since 1920, Manolis Stefanakis established the apiary “Meligyris” which engages in the production of rare types of honey from wild herbs of the Cretan land.
Manolis’ scientific background, as a graduate from the Agricultural University of Athens as well as his longtime involvement in the family business, led him to associate the microclimate in different geographical areas (according to altitude, relative humidity and soil composition) with the organoleptic & biochemical characteristics of the produced honey.
Meligyris apiary center is located in Arkalohori, a village in the surroundings of Heraklion, Crete. A team of 23 specialists and a sales team of 9, combine scientific knowledge with family tradition to offer a range of exclusive honey products.
The philosophy of Meligyris honey consists in producing and packaging honey of high nutritional value. It bears unique organoleptic characteristics, which are directly connected to the special terroir and the exceptional flora of Crete. It is carefully harvested and packaged in order to retain all natural characteristics and nutritional benefits.
